Your benefits
What can I choose?
Medical and telehealth come with Smirk. On top of that you choose from dental, vision, prescriptions, accident, critical illness, mental health, therapy and preventive screening. Take one, take all of them, and set the level of each.
Can I change my benefits?
Any time. Add, drop or turn a benefit up or down whenever your work changes. Ailene shows you what changes with it, and the new price, before anything is committed.
When do my benefits start?
Join any day of the year, even if you missed open enrollment. Most benefits are usable right away, and Ailene tells you which ones carry a waiting period before you buy.
Do my benefits stay with me if my work changes?
Yes. They are yours, not your employer’s. No COBRA cliff when a job ends, no gap between contracts, and no coverage year to wait out. Change jobs, go freelance, move states: nothing lapses.
Do Smirk benefits have deductibles?
No. There is nothing to clear first. Your benefits pay a set amount from dollar one for each kind of care, at any provider.
Can I cover my spouse or kids?
Everyone in your household who wants benefits gets their own set, sized to what they actually need.
About Ailene
What can Ailene help me with?
Building your benefits, explaining what they pay, finding care, booking it, reading a bill, and getting more out of what you already chose. Real human support sits behind her.
How does Ailene know what’s right for me?
She asks. A few plain questions about how you use healthcare and what you want to spend, then she builds around your answers and shows the price as it moves.
What information does Ailene use?
What you tell her, and the benefits you have chosen. Nothing about your health is required to enroll in the first place.
Is my information private and secure?
Yes. Your data stays with you and never changes your price. Smirk is guaranteed issue, so there is no medical exam and no health questionnaire to hand over.
Using your benefits
How do I find care?
Ask Ailene. She looks at who is rated well near you, checks what they charge against what your benefits pay, and books it. You see both numbers before she confirms anything.
Can I keep my doctor?
Yes. There is no network and no referral, so any provider you choose works, and there is nobody to check with first.
How do I know what I’ll pay before I go?
Your benefits pay a set amount toward each kind of care. Ailene shows you that number next to what the provider charges, before you book, never after. No surprise bill weeks later.
How do prescriptions work?
The prescriptions benefit pays a set amount per refill, generic or brand depending on the level you chose. Fill it at any counter, and Ailene shows you the price before you collect.
What if I need more care than my benefits cover?
Smirk pays fixed amounts per benefit, so costs above those amounts are yours. Ailene shows you the limit on every benefit before you enroll, and your benefits can include hospital cover and guaranteed-issue critical illness protection up to $100,000, paid directly to you.
About Smirk
Is Smirk health insurance?
Smirk benefits are fully insured and underwritten by Chubb. Not a discount card, not a membership program. It is not traditional major medical either: it pays a set amount toward each kind of care rather than an open-ended share of every bill.
Who provides the benefits?
Chubb underwrites them. Smirk designs how you build them and how you use them.
Where can I use my benefits?
At any provider you choose. Smirk itself is rolling out state by state, so check your ZIP at signup and Ailene will tell you instantly whether you can enroll where you live.
Why does Smirk cost less than a marketplace plan?
You only pay for the benefits you keep, each one pays a fixed amount with no markup baked into the premium, and an AI-run service costs less to operate. For context, marketplace out-of-pocket premiums rose 58% once the tax credits expired, with a further 14% median increase proposed for 2027. The saving here is structural, not a promotion. What about pre-existing conditions?
Smirk is guaranteed issue, so there is no medical exam and no health questionnaire to enroll and nothing about your health changes your price. There is one limit worth knowing: a condition you were treated for in the 12 months before your benefits start is not covered for your first 12 months. After that it is covered like anything else. Some benefits also carry a short waiting period, and Ailene tells you which ones apply to you before you buy.
Can I deduct my premiums if I’m self-employed?
That is one for your accountant. Tax treatment depends on how you work and how you file, and we do not give tax advice. Bring your Smirk details to the conversation.
