Is Smirk a replacement for my ACA Marketplace plan?
Smirk is a different category of coverage, not a 1:1 replacement. It’s fixed indemnity insurance: each benefit pays a set amount toward a kind of care, so you know your number up front. Many freelancers use it alongside other coverage. Others choose it as an alternative option that fits their needs and budget. It isn’t major medical and doesn’t satisfy the ACA coverage requirement.
Is Smirk insurance?
Limited Benefits Plans are insurance, underwritten by Federal Insurance Company and ACE American Insurance Company. Not a discount card or a membership. It works differently from traditional major medical. Rather than an open-ended share of every bill, each benefit pays a set amount toward a kind of care, so you know your number up front. It can sit alongside your medical insurance plan. It is a different category of coverage: a supplemental fixed indemnity insurance, not comprehensive major medical coverage. Smirk also includes other non-insurance benefits like telehealth and Ailene™, your AI Health Concierge.
How much does it cost?
Plans start from $20/month and vary based on the benefits you select. You see your price and every benefit amount before you enroll.
Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
No. There are no restrictive networks or referrals, so you can see any licensed provider you choose.
When can I enroll?
Any day of the year. You don’t need to wait for open enrollment. Most benefits start on day one; some have waiting periods.
Can I keep seeing my own doctor?
Yes. There’s no network, so any licensed provider works.
What if care costs more than my benefit pays?
You pay the difference. You’ll see what your benefit pays and the estimated cost before you book, so you can plan ahead.
